On February 2006 I had an accident where I fractured my pelvis, some ribs, and collar bone. Each month after that, my left leg suffered more atrophy, my mobility diminished, and I suffered tremendous, constant pain. I feel that the medical system did not address properly my condition. The only thing that helped me to recuperate was chiropractor and physical therapy. However, even after many months of receiving those services, it seemed that I was going to be permanently handicapped. To compound the problem, my job (constant sitting, typing) and family obligations made things worse. My life became quite limited and it was hard for me to maintain my usual upbeat, positive attitude, facing such a constant acute pain. Most of the times, I was emotionally down.

 

I was referred to Ron Arbel’s Pain Free Clinic by the ergonomic team of the UCSD. I arrived to Mr. Arbel’s office dragging my left leg, limping greatly, with terrible pain from my neck to my toes. During the first visit, Mr. Arbel assessed my situation and gave me a very realistic picture of my condition. He was open to work with me, even when I was not the usual case of work injury/repetitive injury. I told him that any relief from my pain, any tiny improvement, would be appreciated.

 

Well, the improvement was NOT tiny. It was huge. After the first visit, I felt some changes. After the second, some ‘healing’ reactions – not all of them comfortable. Then, after the third visit, something changed: ME. Not only I arrived to the next visit giggling again, being the person I was before all that pain sat on me. I started walking and sleeping without any pain, increasing my productivity at work (even my brain seemed to work faster and with more energy). I started volunteering during my free time, enjoying my life, both at home and at work.  I felt like I was ‘ME’ again.

 

I am so impressed at Mr. Arbel knowledge and the way that he works. He sets improvement goals with you, finds out what is the area you want to work on, treats you as a whole, not as a collection of symptoms. With me, he addressed not only the most damaged parts of my body, but some other ‘aches and pains’ that, now looking back at it, were making my life a bit difficult.

 

Each visit with Mr. Arbel has brought major improvements. Not only to my joints, muscles of bones; but to my life. To my body, my brain, and my soul. I feel so lucky that the UCSD has this program for their employees. And I feel so deeply grateful to Mr. Arbel.
